Cleaning leather correctly

With regular use or inadequate care, it is not always possible to prevent leather furniture and car seats from becoming soiled. Denim discoloration, grease stains, grease shine and various stain rings are often the result, and then comes the question of how to clean them correctly.

Denim discolouration Food and drink stains Nail polish Ball pen or ink stains

The A to Z of correct leather cleaning: The type of leather and the type of soiling determines the cleaning agent. Due to their different material properties, different types of leather also have individual requirements for cleaning agents. Especially with leather furniture, the selection ranges from the highest quality (but sensitive) pure aniline leathers to heavily pigmented (and therefore easy to clean) leathers, all of which require different cleaning and care products.

Whereas pigmented leathers can be cleaned relatively easily and simply due to their surface colour top layer, extreme care should be taken, for example, with untreated pure aniline or vegetable-tanned leathers. In the worst case, you can even increase the damage of such sensitive leathers with incorrect cleaning, often even just with pure water.

IMPORTANT: Prior to each cleaning, test the cleaner on a concealed area (such as on the unseen base or back of the sofa). The cleaning of leather is very delicate depending on the type of leather, and unsuitable cleaning agents can even cause damage. In summary, test first!

We at LCK have been experts in leather cleaning and leather care for over 30 years. You can trust in our experience and our products and we always have the right cleaning product for your application. By the way, we manufacture our cleaning and care products ourselves, naturally only once they have passed extensive laboratory tests and are recommended by our leather technicians.

It is not without reason that renowned German furniture manufacturers such as ROLF BENZ, COR, Koinor, W.Schillig, BRÜHL, Bretz, Dietsch, Polstermöbel Oelsa, KFF, Thonet and many others recommend our KERALUX® range as the best leather care products.

We have put together a list of cleaning tips for the most common stains and soiling on leather here. If you do not have the KERALUX® cleaner that is recommended in the stain list to hand, then proceed as follows: Remove coarse soiling with a cloth. Liquids should be gently soaked up with a paper towel (kitchen roll). Wash off the stain very carefully with pure distilled water. It’s very important to work without applying pressure. Do not rub, in order to avoid the risk of the stain penetrating the leather. Then purchase the respective recommended KERALUX® cleaner (best of all right here in the »» online shop or over the telephone on +49 7251/9625-0) and remove the stain in accordance with the instructions.

Using our "First Aid stain primer" you will be able to see at a glance what you should do in event of a mishap.
